A Prayer for April 26, 2020
Nehemiah 1; Psalm 121; Psalm 86
Oh Lord, God of Heaven,
You are the great and awesome God who keeps his covenant of love with those who love you and keep your commandments. We rely on your promise of love each day; it is the very air that we breathe. Thank you for this new day; thank you again for the gift of life and the promise of life to come. We pray that our lives will be an offering of gratitude for what you have done for us.
We cry out to you in the middle of our trouble with all the cares and worries and concerns that we carry around with us each day. They are too much for us to bear; we turn them over to you our God as you have taught us. We turn them over to you because we know you care for each one of us. We turn them over to you because you are the God who watches over our lives, who sees our coming and going now and forever. You are our help and our strength.
There is none like you, nothing can compare to your creation, no deeds compare with yours. We bow down and worship before you; we seek to bring glory to your name. For you are great and do marvelous things; you alone are God. You are forgiving and good; abounding in love to all who call to you for help. And we do cry out for help; we cry out to the God of compassion and grace for mercy. We pray that you intervene in this sea of trouble.
Teach us your ways Lord; help us to rely on your faithfulness. Give us an undivided heart to praise you with all that we are. Great is your love toward each of us; you have delivered us from the depths to the realms of life. Please give us eyes to see what you have done and what you are doing.
As you have shown mercy, help us to show mercy. As you have forgiven, help us to forgive. As you have rescued us from despair, help us to speak of hope to others. As you have provided, help us to share.
Thank you for making us your children. Thank you for Jesus.
In his name we pray.
