Core Beliefs
The following are the core beliefs of Mayfair Church of Christ based on the foundational truths taught in the bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these truths.
God
There is one eternally existing God who has three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. He is the creator of all that exists, both visible and invisible, and is therefore worthy of all glory and praise. God is perfect in love, power, holiness, goodness, knowledge, wisdom, justice, and mercy. He is unchangeable and therefore is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. He desires a close and personal relationship with his us.
Jesus
Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God, is the second personality of the eternal God and came to earth to seek and save the lost. He is fully God and was, at the same time, fully human. Jesus lived a perfect life in full obedience to the Father and humbled Himself by voluntarily giving his life on a cross for the atonement of all who would believe in Him. He rose from the dead and thus defeated the last stronghold of the enemy -- death -- and thereby granted all the saved a spiritual victory over death. His death, burial and resurrection form the cornerstone of our faith and give us the reason to proclaim that good news to all people.
holy spirit
The Holy Spirit is the third personality of the eternal God. He has been active in this world since it was created. His primary function is to apply the word of God in this world. He inspired the writers of the Bible and He lives in every Christian.
salvation
While the relationship that humanity had with God in the Garden of Eden was the original intent of God, mankind rebelled and has been separated from God through sin. Sin brought a corrupt nature to humanity spiritually, physically and relationally, thus leaving us incapable of self-remedy. The remedy is to be found solely in God. Salvation is offered and granted to anyone who, by his or her free will, accepts God's free gift through a repentant heart and obedient faith in Jesus Christ. It is that faith that saves a person. Through baptism one enters into the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus, and the power of Jesus' blood is applied to forgive his or her sins.
the church
The Church is meant to be the visible body of Christ, sent into the world to glorify God and proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ.
